If you live in the Kansas City area, then you may or may not be familiar with Adrian’s Cafe.  Guy Morris bought it in 1992 and he didn’t have enough money left after the purchase of the cafe to change the sign, so it stuck.  There are now two Adrian’s Cafes in the southern Greater Kansas City area.

Adrian’s probably succeeds the most because it is a great deli with a homemade touch.  They make their own bread and hand-cut thick slices of it for their sandwiches.

They also have salads, soups, cookies, etc.  You can check out their website to see their full menu.

The problem with Adrian’s website is that it is made in Adobe Flash.  Now, it looks awesome, is well organized and easy to navigate, but for search engine optimization it is not ideal.  Why?  Because search engines’ spiders look for words, not for images.  Although their website has words, they are actually included in a photo type of image, so Google sees them as photos not as words.

Small business blogging is so important for a place like Adrian’s Cafe because it is a guaranteed return on their investment.  They will be able to offer specials, coupons, talk about how they can cater your party or event, and much more.

More importantly, with the content online, they will be found online more and more.  Of course, Adrian’s Cafes are strategically placed next to business office parks, which is simply genius.  However, there are still those traveling sales reps that will be Googling for sandwich shops in Overland Park and Lenexa when they are supposed to be bringing lunch in for a prospective client.

Because it is a local business, it is easy to use geographically targeted keywords and build content creation around that.  For example, although the Overland Park store is located near Corporate Woods Office Park, there is another large office park in Overland Park, Southcreek Office Park, that would bring them tons of more business for delivery orders.   They could grab that business if they had a corporate weblog that targeted keywords and encouraged people to share it with their friends – like coupons and specials, etc.

Blogging can help all sorts of businesses.  If you’re not sure how it can help yours or would like ideas on how it might, please contact us.
