Business Blog RSS

What is business blog RSS?

RSS Feed is using translated to “Really Simple Syndication” but also can be translated to “Rich Site Summary”.  Basically, a RSS Feed is a web format that helps to publish frequently updated content in an easy-to-read format.

This site’s RSS feed, for example, can be accessed through the small orange RSS icon located in the upper left hand corner of the site.

If you click on this site’s RSS feed, you will see that it is text only.  There are no pretty photos or anything else, rather than strict content.

RSS is an excellent way for Internet searchers to get their content without having to search for it.  Since Internet users can subscribe to RSS feed, it allows them to bookmark sites that they are interested in.  Then when a new article is posted or if a change is made to a webpage, RSS will track it and let you know.

The original use for RSS was to be able to create your own newspaper, for example.  You choose the topics and RSS will deliver the feed.   A quick list of things that RSS can help sort out for you:

  • Airfare
  • Job Searches
  • Horoscope
  • Crossword Puzzles
  • Your Children’s Homework
  • Software Updates
  • Track other People’s Schedules

It allows you to track all of those and more and the value is that you don’t have to go to each site individually and wait for items to pop-up or load.  It simply is more efficient and saves you time.

RSS has to be installed on your blog in order for it to work properly.  For example, on this website, if you sign up for our e-mails, it is very similar to subscribing to our RSS feed.  You will be notified when we post a new topic about business blogging.  Whereas with RSS feeds, when you launch your Internet Browser (Internet Explorer and Firefox now incorporate RSS feed subscription services with their bookmarking sites), you will see whether there are new comments on the blogs you are following, based on the respective RSS feed icons that you are following.  So, if you are not a fan of receiving a lot of e-mail, you can always subscribe to the RSS feed of a blog or a website and choose to follow it at your own leisure.

There are also feed readers that you can download to read your RSS subscriptions more easily.
