Interview with Debbie Lusk, Innkeeper of The Pfeiffer Cottage Inn, Blogging for The Oregon Bed & Breakfast Guild

by Jenny on August 22, 2011

Oregon Bed & Breakfast GuildI own a B & B in the Willamette Valley.  Wine country keeps me busy and I love to travel within Oregon mostly but enjoy it anywhere!  I love writing and photography when I can find time.  This time of year in Oregon is slamming busy!  But, I’m not complaining!

1. Why did you guys decide to have a blog?

I decided to blog because I love writing and I love writing about my experiences here in Oregon.  I am not a professional writer but I love telling people about what I get to do in hopes they will take the info and do some exploring on their own.

2. Do you ever have folks ask you what a blog is?  How do you define it?

Yes!  I have had people ask me what a blog is.  I have been asked by people that I should write short stories.  I tell them that is exactly what my blog is.  A very short story.  Using key words/phrases and subjects that people are interested in increases my pages viewed stats so by finding those interesting and sought after subjects, it’s boosts my views therefore gets my inn or myself out there to be noticed!  Some people still have trouble though understanding how it works.

3. How did you discover Compendium?

I discovered Compendium through OBBG.  It is the company we use for blogging for the guild.

4. How long have you had the blog with Compendium?

I was not involved in the initial "looking" when it came to checking out blogging companies.

5. Why did you choose to put your marketing money into a blog and not into direct mailing or something else, for example?

In this case, our organization puts money in to all aspects of marketing that pertains to the B & B business.  Paper, internet, etc.  It all works for us.

6. What sort of success have you seen with your blog

We have seen success although slowly at first as evidenced by our stats, the blog getting picked up by other sites to be used to market another yet connected travel business, etc.

7. How many folks in your company write for your blog?

Although we encourage others to "guest" blog, there are only three of us.

8. Is there anything else you would like to add?

In addition, blogging is a good outlet and if corporate blogging was my "job," I would consider it still of course.  However, in a volunteer position when working hard at a lot of things, it was something that I hard time sitting down to do.
