Interview with Mike Braun, Online Marketing & Media Manager of BizActions

BizActions Mike Braun is BizActions Online Marketing and Media Manger.  His duties keep him busy developing and managing a number of BizActions marketing initiatives including BizActions website and various micro sites, landing pages, its Video Of The Week productions, implementation of the Online Tax Guides, creation of the Timely Opportunities widgets, and of course it’s blog.
1. Why did you guys decide to have a blog? 

The first reason that I think comes to mind for everyone is the obvious, everyone else is.  But really the reasons boil down to SEO and Customer Service.

2. Do you ever have folks ask you what a blog is?  How do you define it? 

Honestly, no one has ever asked and the people who don’t know really would never be exposed to one anyway.  How do I define a blog? That depends on whether they are personal or business oriented.  I do think that even business blogs need to show a little personality behind the curtain though or they are often just shameless promo.

3. How did you discover Compendium Blogware

A salesperson emailed and then followed up with a phone call.  Yes that still works sometimes (when your email captures my attention and those are few and far between).

4. How long have you had the blog with Compendium?

Since July of 2009

5. Did you look into other blogging platforms before going with Compendium? 

It didn’t take long to figure out that Compendium was years ahead of their competition and at BizActions we aren’t afraid of investing our time and effort into cutting edge technology.

6. What makes Compendium worth the money for you? 

The distribution of a single post across multiple blogs based on the posts keyword content.

7. Why did you choose to put your marketing money into a blog and not into direct mailing or something else, for example? 

We still do direct mailing and trade shows and dialing for dollars.  Any company that puts all their eggs in one basket hasn’t analyzed what motivates human response because we’re all different.

8. What sort of success have you seen with your blog? 

Tremendous increase in search engine ranking and call to action click throughs.

9. How many folks in your company write for your blog?

Almost everyone. 

Do they find it an easy or a daunting task?

I’m sure most of them do, but we’re all self motivated (and I mean every employee) so after they saw the power of blogging they were willing to invest the time to do their part.  We actually schedule it out by department, so no person has to post more than every few weeks.

10.  Is there anything else you would like to add?

A BIG plus is hiring freelance content writers like Business Blog Writers to fill in the gaps and help us maintain a consistent volume of posts on a weekly basis.  Plus Jennifer and her team understand Compendium, the importance of keywords and links back to our website so everything is done professionally and effectively.
