Interview with Nick Robinson of Social Media HQ

His professional experience with the web dates back to 1997 when he coded his first Geocities website. When not burning the midnight oil, you can find him on the lacrosse field, playing or coaching. 1. What is Social Media HQ?

Social Media HQ is a social media marketing company based out of Philadelphia, PA which has been operating since June, 2010. We provide strategic and tactical consulting services that help businesses identify influencers, deliver ground level customer service, empower target markets with accessible and valuable information, and amplify fan activity.

2. Why is social media important for a company?

Social Media breaks down the communication barriers that were once owned by TV, Radio, Magazines, and Newspapers. Brands have the ability to have real time conversations with their prospects and customers in a very public forum. Companies have no choice but to listen to their target market, as most of what customers say or do within the social media environment is open for the world to see.

3. Would you say all sorts of companies can use social media or do you think that B2C (business to consumer) are best?

Social media can be implemented into every business model. It all depends on if you’re providing your audience with entertaining, educational, or inspiring content. Also, businesses can tap into the conversations that are already happening about their brand or product category to increase sales and retention.

4. How do you use blogs for the companies that you work with?

We generally refer to blogs as the hub of our clients social media strategy. Most content is hosted by the blog, whether that is articles, pictures, video, white papers, or podcasts. We then use outside social networks and forums to distribute our client’s content. Through distribution and making blog content findable and shareable, our clients have the ability to amplify their reach throughout the web community.

5. How important is consistent content for your blog? Why?

Think about your TV watching habits. You check into a show each week because you know the general subject, channel, and show time. The audience for the show builds up over time due to word of mouth (digital or non-digital). The same concept can be applied to consistent content within social media, as we are all production houses now whether we know it or not.

6. Why are keywords important for your blog? What sort of keywords do you recommend companies use?

One of the factors of blogging that can’t be overlooked is being found in search engines like Google. Search engine optimization is still an important part of a digital marketing strategy because there is usually intent behind searches within Google. For example, if I want to find information on how to be a better father, I would search for “parenting tips”. In order to increase the likelihood of your content showing up for specific searches, you will want to optimize your website and blog posts to be search engine friendly using keywords.

Finding the correct keywords will involve some sort of pain point that your company’s product or service alleviates. This will require some research. A great keyword research tool that Google provides will give you a list of possible keywords to target within your blog posts. You will want to find a healthy balance between competition and search volume for your target keywords as well.

7. What is your advice on companies using keywords?

I think the best advice I could give is to do the proper research and adjust your keyword usage based on what content drives the most conversions over a 3-6 month period.

8. How can a company get in touch with you? Do you do free proposals?

Companies can get in touch with us in several ways through Facebook, Twitter, and E-mail. E-mail would be the best option if you have immediate service inquiries. 9. How can a B2B company use Facebook effectively?

B2B companies can use Facebook as a customer retention, lead nurturing, and sales conversion tool. Providing valuable and timely information that addresses pains and solutions will serve the audience best. Any chance you have to humanize your company will serve as a long term benefit.

10. How can a B2B company use Twitter effectively?

B2B companies can use Twitter to share their content as well as other people’s content to build relationships with their customers and colleagues. In addition, companies can set up keyword searches that will monitor conversations that are happening about subjects related to customer pain points. This will serve as a lead capture and customer service channel by jumping into conversations when appropriate and relevant.
